About this mod Author’s original text

Universal Chat Filter

A flexible chat filtering system that allows hosts to enforce server-wide filters and players to apply personal filters.

Quick Start: Press F11 to open the mod window. The key can be reassigned in the settings.

Features

  • Server-wide word filtering (host-controlled)
  • Personal word filtering (client-side)
  • Works even if the host does not use the mod
  • Can filter messages from clients without the mod
  • Multiple filtering methods supported
  • Non-invasive and performance-friendly

Host Filter

The host can filter specific words for all players.

Recommended to use only rules agreed upon with server members to avoid feeling overly restrictive.

Effects

  • Applies to all players
  • Can filter messages from clients without the mod

Personal Filter

Players can locally filter words they do not wish to see.

Works even if:

  • The host does not use the mod
  • Other players do not use the mod

Privacy & Logging

Chat content is never stored.

The mod may record filter trigger events (filtered word and triggering player) without storing the original message.

Purpose

Designed to:

  • Support server rules
  • Prevent harassment or keyword-based spam
  • Improve chat safety without intrusive moderation

Compatibility

  • Safe for multiplayer
  • Works with mixed mod/non-mod clients
  • Does not modify gameplay or network state

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
