A Giant Mantis, also known as Giant Praying Mantis, is an amazing insect predator that must be feared. An adult Giant Mantis can catch preys as big as a wolf or human with its strong spined front legs. This front legs are lined with spikes and close in a certain way to have a firm grip on the prey, acting like strong clamps. A mantis has a small head with large eyes and long antennas, on the top of a slender tall torso, and a large abdomen. Giant Mantis have wings, but they do not use them commonly. Their weapons are the large front legs to grab prey, and they have four slim legs meant for fast walking.

Praying mantids exclusively eat on prey by catching them with their forelegs. They do not use poison but eat the prey alive with their sharp mandibles, while they hold it firmly. Two variants occur in Skyrim, one green in color, native to pine forests, and one orange in color, native to fall forests. The initial form of a Giant Mantis is known as Giant Mantis Hatchlings, they are small, and do not pose a danger, choosing to flee rather than attack.

Giant Mantis have cannibalistic behavior, not hesitating to hunt and devour other Giant Mantis, including small hatchlings. Although rare, duels to death can be seen between Giant Mantis in the forests, scholars say that it is even common for the female to devour the male after mating.
